STEVEN DEWS

Rounding the Gybe Mark - Limited edition canvas, stretched and framed in distressed gilt with a canvas slip.

Limited edition prints by the pre-eminent British artist of yachting subjects. Described by Sotheby’s of London as "the best, there’s nobody else to touch him"... Just launched - eight brilliant new subjects on canvas...

Art Marine is proud to announce the release of eight wonderful new limited edition prints by Steven Dews.

Demand for his original paintings is so high that the artist's price records are revised after almost every sale!

For example, the original painting of one of our new releases Westward Reaching Through Cowes Roads broke Dews' last world record price of £95,000 (US $190,000) when it sold at Sotheby's in London for £120,000 (US $240,000), double its pre-estimate sale.

Each new release is strictly limited to an edition size of 50 copies on canvas with the exception of Cape Horn, which is printed on both paper and canvas, and has a total edition size of 100 (50 copies on paper and 50 copies on canvas.)

Each edition is printed using our high quality gouttelette® process and every copy is individually checked before it is numbered by hand. Each print is also accompanied by a numbered Certificate of Authenticity, which is signed by the artist.

Born in Yorkshire in 1949, Steven Dews’s meteoric rise to success from distinctly unpromising beginnings, should be an inspiration to all young artists. From being the boy who failed his Art "A" Level, his work has now placed him at the pinnacle of the marine art world.

Steven Dews

Following his graduation, Steven Dews built up an astonishing portfolio for his first exhibition in 1976 and, on the exhibition’s first night, virtually his entire collection was sold. The following year he held an exhibition in San Francisco which also sold out to great critical acclaim and, since then, Steven Dews has continued exhibiting regularly at leading galleries in London and throughout the world. He is now commissioned for several years in advance.

Steven Dews’s spectacular canvas, The Battle of Trafalgar, reached a new world record price for the artist when it was auctioned in Bond Street, London, in the summer of 2005. The eventual buyer paid over £95,000 for this painting (approximately US$170,000), which was the highlight of a day-long sale to celebrate the 200th anniversary of Nelson’s great victory at Trafalgar. The original painting is one of the largest the artist has ever created, with dimensions of 40” x 66”; the painting took seven years from commission to final completion. It has also been published by Rosenstiel’s as a limited edition print in seven formats across both paper and canvas.

Almost fifty Steven Dews limited editions have now been published, most of which have long been ‘sold out’, and his work is avidly collected around the world. Above all, Steven Dews lives and loves the subject he paints, and he spends much of his spare time sailing on his Swan 44, Fine Art.
