A bright and breezy depiction of a typical late 19th-century shipping scene in the Channel. These were busy waters during the days of sail - not only with coastal craft but with ships coming and going to all parts of the globe.

The barque is the 'Favell' returning from an Australian grain run. She shows signs of hard work with her rust-streaked hull, but she was also one of the few ships to be built undercover and launched bows first in 1895.  She had a long career under various owners, including Finnish owners who also used her as a cadetship, and was eventually scrapped in 1934.

Oil on canvas signed lower left.

Canvas size 28 x 18 inches

NB - there is a very slight vertical crease in the canvas, please email if you would like more detail on this.
