This dramatic depiction of the uncompromising harshness of life at sea during the age of sail is one of a number of highly atmospheric deck scenes created by the artist at various times in his career. This particular view shows men battling with the wind in an attempt to shorten the sail due to the ominous weather conditions. The tension is heightened by glimpsing the warm glow of the relative comfort of their mess below decks from where they have just emerged.

Each print is hand numbered, accompanied by a certificate signed by the Master Printer and is numbered to match the print. The editions are limited to 1880 copies. Other canvas sizes are available on request.
