A Concentration of Force - Oil on canvas by Geoff Hunt RSMA.

This spectacular painting depicts the scene just before sunset, when the British Mediterranean fleet departed winter anchorage at Arenys de Mar, on the Catalonian coast, to resume the close blockade of Toulon.  

Prominent left of centre is the 120-gun flagship Caledonia, flying Vice-Admiral Pellew's red ensign, while the stern of the ship at the extreme right belongs to the Hibernia, also 120 guns, Vice-Admiral Sir Sidney Smith.  All the other ships are three-deckers mounting at least 100 guns each - an immense concentration of force.
