Vanguard in heavy weather off Toulon, 19th May 1798

On this day Nelson, lying in wait for the French fleet off Toulon, was caught unprepared by a storm. He was in serious danger of losing his ship but the bravery of Captain Ball of the "Alexander" saved Nelson.

"Vanguard" was Nelson's flagship at his great victory of the Battle of the Nile.
